In this solo exhibition, Gallery Ramakers shows recent paintings and works on paper by Michel Hoogervorst (1961). The floral motif functions as the backbone of his work, context given by a variety of visual and linguistic elements.
Flowers come from meaningful bouquets, among others, but the hollyhock is also an important recurring motif, a plant that each year reappears irresistibly and lushly in the city.
His paintings deal both with personal stories and those of the world around them but also with the creative process itself. The material and colour use specific to each work is based on content considerations.
On show, for example, are contrasts in matte/gloss, transparent/opaque and, in the smaller works, the use of slate and wooden panels.
The title of the exhibition 'It is time to tell' refers to the fact that until now his work was untitled but from now on Michel Hoogervorst will use titles. Over time, his work became increasingly narrative; with the titles, he wants to give the viewer more clues to interpretation.
